Claudia Petretti studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art under John Houston where she was awarded a First Class Degree. Since graduating in 1988 she has regularly exhibited in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London, taking a couple of years out around 1996 when her son was born.
In recent years, Claudia has returned to her first passion of drawing the figure, a fascination that’s she’s had since the age of 17 when she attended her first life drawing classes at ECA. Her focus is primarily on portraiture and capturing the mood and feeling of her sitter. Over the years, these portraits have become increasingly sparse, using line and a minimum suggestion of tone or colour to create a drawing which appears “finished and yet not finished”.
Portrait of Liz Lochead, featured on the cover of her collection of poems, Bagpipe Muzak.
Portrait of actors, Russell Hunter and Una Mclean.
Her work is currently held in the City Art Centre, Edinburgh and RSA Collections Edinburgh and Art UK
